We’re Celebrating 54 Years Protecting Dolphins!
10Apr
When Kathy, one of the five dolphins who played Flipper in the TV series of the same name died in my arms, that was my moment. I made a commitment then and there to fight the multi-billion dollar dolphin captivity industry, and on the first Earth Day in 1970, Dolphin Project was born. Now, 54 years later, great strides have been made towards protecting dolphins worldwide. With you by our side, we will continue our groundbreaking work, advocating for those whose voices have been silenced.

120+ Dolphins Have Died at Miami Seaquarium – It’s Time to Empty The Tanks!
Come join me and Dolphin Project for a protest outside of Miami Seaquarium this Sunday, April 14 at 12:00PM (EST).
Early last month, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava sent a “Notice of Termination of Lease” letter to Eduardo Albor, the president of Miami Seaquarium’s parent company, The Dolphin Company due to multiple and significant violations at the facility. The letter states that the property upon which Miami Seaquarium occupies is to be vacated by The Dolphin Company by April 21 – ironically, a date that virtually coincides with our 54th birthday.

All Aboard! Come See Dolphins and other Whales, Wild and Free!
Later, this month, on April 20 and 21 we are partnering with Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari for an event of a lifetime!
Come join me and Dolphin Project team members in Dana Point, California as we head out onto the water in search of some of the most magnificent marine mammals on the planet. Species we might encounter include: gray whales, fin whales, minke whales, humpback whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, sea lions, sharks, birds, and more!

Did you know ➡️ 100% of every ticket purchased goes towards Dolphin Project’s critical campaigns to help protect dolphins worldwide!

Will You Join Us for the 12th Annual Empty The Tanks Event?
Over the past 12 years, the Empty The Tanks event has expanded into a global movement, with approximately 30 events taking place across the world, where participants peacefully protest in front of their local aquarium or marine park. On May 11 and 12, stand up on behalf of dolphins and other whales and and join an Empty The Tanks event near you, or create one in your area.

Expanding Our Global Outreach Efforts

Turtle rescue, Bali, Indonesia

Primate rescue facility, Bali, Indonesia
While protecting dolphins will always be our primary focus, our work has also evolved, including building a turtle hospital, operating a primate rehabilitation facility, and running a veterinary clinic for companion animals at the Umah Lumba Center in West Bali, Indonesia – the world’s first and only permanent dolphin rehabilitation, release and retirement facility for formerly performing dolphins. We’re also doing our part to support the environment, having planted over 30,000 mangrove seedlings since 2020. We even operate a free school, where children come to learn English and the importance of marine conservation.
A commitment I made decades ago, when I first visited Japan in 1976, continues today with several lawsuits against the town of Taiji working their way through Japanese courts. While documenting the annual dolphin hunts is important, I believe a critical key to ending this barbaric practice is via legal channels.
What started as a grassroots initiative has transformed into an international movement – and this is all because of your steadfast support of our work.

Let’s help protect dolphins together.
