Everyday Actions Can Change the Future
02Jan
It’s the start of a new year — and a perfect moment to ask ourselves: “What kind of impact do I want to make in 2026?”
For dolphins and their habitats, the future depends in part on the everyday decisions and actions that we make. Some of these can include:
- replacing plastic disposables with reusable alternatives,
- spreading awareness about topics of interest,
- engaging the younger generation in environmental causes, and
- saying “no” to attractions that exploit dolphins and other whales.
The trick is to not get caught up in making ironclad resolutions which then fizzle out by February. A better way is to choose one or two clear goals, and then break them down into a few easy steps.
Here’s a sample blueprint to get you started!
Take a stand against captivity
- write a letter to the editor on why dolphin and whale captivity should not be supported
- organize or attend an Empty The Tanks event (watch for details on our 2026 event!)
- share information amongst friends, family and social groups
Help protect local waterways
- host a cleanup at a beach, creek or a park
- encourage others to reduce single-use plastics
- suggest that party planners skip the balloons in their festivities
Empower the younger generation
- share our Study Guides with teachers and parents
- introduce cetacean conservation into classrooms
- suggest article topics for inclusion in student newsletters
Observe dolphins in the wild
- while respecting local laws, observe dolphins in their natural habitat
- learn which other species the cetaceans interact with in the wild
- research their communication methods and social structure
Turn personal goals into meaningful impact
- transform personal goals into creative fundraisers for Dolphin Project
- challenge others to pair their goals with meaningful fundraising
From all of us at Dolphin Project – thank you! Here’s to a successful and action-filled 2026!
