Lease Termination Notice Issued to Miami Seaquarium
07Mar
March 7, 2024 – The office of Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has sent a “Notice of Termination of Lease” letter Thursday to Eduardo Albor, the president of Miami Seaquarium’s parent company, The Dolphin Company.
The letter said the termination of Miami Seaquarium’s lease was a result of “numerous and significant violations and defaults” at the facility. Over the past few years there have been a number of damning USDA inspection reports at Miami Seaquarium, with a large number of very concerning animal welfare issues.

“Lessee’s long and troubling history of violations constitute repeated, continuous and longstanding violations of Lessee’s contractual obligations to keep the Property in a good state of repair, maintain animals in accordance with applicable law, and comply with all laws,” the letter reads. The property is to be vacated and surrendered by April 21, 2024. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
For decades, Dolphin Project has vigorously campaigned against the facility’s use of captive dolphins, including obtaining over 23,000 signatures asking the County to terminate the lease with Miami Seaquarium. A HUGE thank you to all who added their voice!
